Loophole to Happiness Catalogue

The exhibition Loophole to Happiness forms part of a wider process of critical and artistic engagement with the legacy of the left critique of socialism in Eastern Europe, which includes both a reassessment of the writings of dissident theorists and a revival of the spirit and working methods of the neo-avant-garde, issues which are discussed in depth in the texts and interviews in this publication. In harmony with today’s more nuanced attitude to the socialist era and the emergence of new critical perspectives on liberal capitalism, the artistic, intellectual and everyday quest to carve a space in the system for individual freedom and creativity turns out to be a tool for transforming the present as well as understanding the past.
